On-the-Job Training (OJT) Overview

You Hire, You Train, We PAY

On-the-Job (OJT) funds are available to companies interested in hiring workers but unable to find people with the exact skills they desire but are willing to train. Companies are reimbursed between 50 and 90 percent of the wages paid to the new, full-time employee during the training process (company size determines percentage).

Why OJT?

  • We will help you find eligible candidates for your open positions
  • We will reimburse you monthly for the costs associated with training this new employee

What is OJT?

  • Hands on training that you design
  • A payment to offset training costs
  • An opportunity to train employees according to your standard
  • An investment in your company

How does it work?

  • We match qualified candidates with approved job openings; On-the-Job Training CANNOT be funded if hiring has already taken place.
  • We work with you to design a training plan to meet your unique business needs

  • The OhioMeansJobs Portage County staff would be happy to meet with you to explain the details of the program. Contact Helene Leightner, Program Officer, at (330) 297-3763.
