Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer.
The Ohio Department of Health’s Indoor Radon Program is located within the Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection which is responsible for the following program areas:
- Radon Outreach and Education
- Radon Licensing
Radon Licensing
The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Radon Licensing program licenses companies and persons directly involved with the radon testing and mitigation industry. The program regulates contractors that install radon mitigation systems, mitigation specialists who design and supervise the installation of mitigation systems, radon testers, radon laboratories and the companies that provide required radon training. ODH ensures the safety and quality of radon services by requiring persons to take approved training that is specific to radon-related activities and by inspecting/auditing the activities of the program participants.

Radon Outreach and Education
The Ohio Indoor Radon Program operates a federally funded indoor radon grant in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and a network of local health departments within the State of Ohio.
Elevated levels of indoor radon is the primary cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.
