Training Opportunities

Training is available throughout the year online and in person. All trainings are emailed or mailed out to MRC volunteers as they are scheduled. Our MRC chapter operates on a 3-Tiered volunteer training system. See the training checklist for details.

All of our initial required training can be completed online, at your own pace. We require that all volunteers reach Tier 1 status within 30 days. We encourage all of our volunteers to complete Tier 2 and Tier 3 statuses, although it is not a requirement.

Until Help Arrives Course

Have you ever though about what you could do if you witnessed an accident or injury?  Or, maybe you have already had that experience but were unsure if you could help.  Well, here is a wonderful opportunity for you!

The Portage County Combined General Health District and the Portage County Medical Reserve Corps are presenting the "Until Help Arrives" coure for FREE to interested individuals and groups in Portage County.  The goal of this three-hour course is to teach participants basic skills to keep people with life-threatening inuries alive until professional help arrives.  Trauma is the leading cause of death in Americans under the age of 46.  Life-threatening injuries require immediate action to stop someone from dying.  The motto of the couse is, "You are the help, until help arrives."

The target audience for this course is teens and adults with no or limited first aid training.  Class size is only limited by the size of the facility.  The course uses a mix of lecture, group activites, mulitmedia presentations, demonstrations and some hands-on practice.
