Rain gardens are both functional and beautiful! These shallow gardens capture rainwater runoff after a storm, allowing it soak into the ground. They help protect our waterways by filtering stormwater runoff and replenishing groundwater. Flowering native plants provide food and shelter for pollinators, birds, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. The plants used in rain gardens develop deep root systems that allow them to survive periods of drought and saturation. Once mature, the root systems will also outcompete weeds, making maintenance simple!

Join us for this virtual program to learn how to plan and install your very own rain garden! This project and workshop series is made possible by a grant from the OEPA Ohio Environmental Education Fund in partnership with the Portage Soil & Water Conservation District. Program participants will learn about the benefits rain gardens and watch the construction of a rain garden at Morgan Park to capture the stormwater runoff from the roof of the park bathroom.

Program surveys and video links will be sent after registration. You will be able to complete the program at your own pace over the course of a week. If you have questions, please email Jennifer at jcwhite@portageparkdistrict.org.
