March 19, 2024 Primary Election

Changes in Identification Laws

A law passed in January 2023 has made several changes to the laws governing elections.  The biggest changes affect the types of identifications which can be used to vote.  A helpful chart can be found by clicking here.  Please note that the type of identification you will need to provide will depend upon how you are voting.  The chart uses the term military identification which is defined as:  U.S. military ID card, Ohio National Guard ID card, or U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ID card.  If you do not have any of the identification listed on the chart, after April 7, 2023 you can receive a free identification at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.  The Bureau of Motor Vehicles will require that you bring your birth certificate or U.S. passport, social security card, and proof of residency.

Voter Registration

The voter registration deadline for the March 19, 2024 Primary Election is February 20, 2024.  Our office will be open on February 20, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.  A person can register to vote online by going to or completing a voter registration form and returning to our office.  Voter registration forms can be found on our website, in the front of the drop box in our parking lot, at your local library or high school, among other locations.  If you have moved or changed your name you should also update your voter registration.  17-year old voters, who will be 18 on or before November 5, 2024 may also register and vote in the March 19, 2024 Primary Election.  17-year old voters may only vote on candidates who are moving forward to the November 5, 2024 General Election.
