April 8th – Solar Eclipse County Closures
Due to the increase of traffic and population that is predicted to affect the Portage County area on April 8th on account of the Solar Eclipse, the Portage County Board of Commissioners has decided to close the Portage County Administration Building on Monday, April 8th, 2024, to protect the health and safety of county employees and visitors to county facilities.
The Portage County Job and Family Services OhioMeansJobs facility, Water Resources Department, Dog Warden, and the Records Center will also be closed. Applicable departments will be working remotely and will be able to be reached by phone.
Solid Waste recycling pickup on April 8th will start one hour early and plan to be complete by 9:00 AM.
In addition, the following Courts will be closing at 12:00 PM on that day: Kent Municipal Court, Juvenile Court, Domestic Relations Court, and Probate Court.
The Common Pleas Court will remain open after 1:00 PM with limited staff.
