      The General Assembly created Portage County on June 9, 1808. Located in Northeast Ohio approximately 30 miles south of Cleveland, it covers an area of approximately 504 square miles. The County’s 2015 population of 161,419 placed it as the 15th most populated of the State’s 88 counties. Portage County enjoys the benefits of urbanization while also offering a rural atmosphere and a variety of lifestyles for its inhabitants.
