Public Records Request

The Commissioners’ Office organizes and maintains public records in a manner that can be made available in response to public records requests.  Any person can make a request for public records by asking the office for specific, existing records. The requester may make a request in any manner the requester chooses: by phone, in person, or in an email or letter. Upon receiving a request for specific, existing public records, our office will provide prompt inspection at no cost during regular business hours, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM Monday-Friday (with the exception of government holidays), or provide copies at $0.05/page (with the first 5 copies free), within a reasonable period of time. The office may withhold or redact specific records that are covered by an exemption to the Public Records Act, but will provide the requester an explanation, including legal authority, for each denial. The Public Records Act requires negotiation and clarification to help identify, locate, and deliver requested records if a requester makes an ambiguous or overly broad request. Similarly, if the office believes that asking for a request in writing, asking for the requester’s identity, or asking for the intended use of the requested information would enhance the ability of the office to provide the records, it may ask for the information.

Please contact the Commissioners’ Office, located at 449 South Meridian Street, 7th Floor, Ravenna, Ohio 44266, during normal working hours 8:00 AM-4:00 PM Monday through Friday (with the exception of government holidays), or by calling (330) 297-3600, faxing (330) 297-3610 or emailing kparbel@portageco.com
