Mediation

MEDIATOR BENITO ANTOGNOLI

Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution in which a neutral third person helps the parties and their attorneys reach a voluntary, mutually acceptable resolution of their dispute.  Mediation is an informal, confidential, and flexible process in which the mediator helps the parties understand the interests of everyone involved, as well as their practical and legal choices.  In mediation, the parties and their lawyers sit in a relaxed setting and discuss possible settlement of the lawsuit with the mediator.  The mediator helps the parties consider the strengths and weaknesses of their case, communicate better, explore legal and practical settlement options, and reach an acceptable solution to the problem.  Mediation can help people resolve their disputes with others in a less adversarial setting than the courtroom.  Mediation can save the parties time and money, improve satisfaction with the Court’s processes, and reduce possible future disputes and offenses.  A case may be referred to mediation at the request of either or both parties, or by an order of the Court.  There is no cost for mediation conducted by the Court’s mediator.
