What is Asset Mapping?
Asset Mapping is the process of inventorying and analyzing the resources of a community or region. The Asset Mapping project for Portage County is a joint venture between the Portage County Regional Planning Commission and the Portage County Auditor and Information Technology departments. The Asset Mapping project was undertaken to provide community leaders and anyone interested in development with important knowledge about the County’s businesses and non-residential land uses, to provide insight into the types of businesses in each community, and to improve development or redevelopment efforts. This website, created with a grant from the State of Ohio’s Local Government Innovation Fund (see below), provides the tools and data to research and analyze Portage County’s business and land assets.

Using this data
Data to research and explore the land uses and businesses in Portage County community are available as downloadable Excel tables. Hyperlinks in the Excel tables link each non-residential property to the Portage County Auditor’s property data and to the County’s Geographic Information System (GIS) maps. (See website and Community information below.)
Zoning information: Commercial/business and industrial zoning information shown on the community maps was compiled in 2022 and is subject to change. Business/commercial and industrial zoning district regulations vary by township, city and village. Many communities have community and zoning information online. Please check the community’s website or contact the appropriate zoning inspector for the zoning status of and regulations applicable to specific properties.
Portage County websites related to Asset Mapping:
The Portage County Auditor’s website, https://portageoh-auditor.ddti.net/, has information and current property data. The “Search” window has an “Advanced Search” tab that allows all properties in the County to be search by Sales, Location, Residential, or Land criteria. Search results can be mapped, exported or downloaded in .csv format.
The Portage County Regional Planning Commission’s website, https://www.portagecounty-oh.gov/regional-planning-commission, has a link to its Asset Mapping page from the “Special Projects” tab. This web page will be updated as the project progresses.
Data accuracy: The files in the Asset Mapping folders for each community are updated annually; However, data or maps accessed via the hyperlinks in the Excel tables are updated weekly. There is no guarantee as to the accuracy of the data accessed through this website or through associated links (see Disclaimer).

Each community in Portage County has a list of current downloads and an archive folder with Excel tables and land use maps in .pdf format. Click on the community in the sidebar to view downloads. Abbreviations for the archive materials from 2013 to 2016 are:
- Abc_vac&ag = Community abbreviation (first 3 letters in community name)_vacant and agricultural land
- Abc_dev = Community abbreviation_developed land (non-residential)
- Abc_zon_use14 = Community abbreviation_zoning and land use map (January 2014 data)
Local Government Innovation Fund
The State of Ohio’s Local Government Innovation Fund (LGIF) offered communities financial assistance to create more efficient and effective service delivery within their area. Projects were expected to facilitate improved business environments and promote community attraction with their plan for efficiency, collaboration, or shared services. Grant funds were awarded semi-annually and loan funds were awarded quarterly through a competitive and open selection process. The website is: https://development.ohio.gov/cs/cs_localgovfund.htm
