Fish with a Cop Reels in Fun!
Portage Park District held its first Fish with a Cop program Saturday, June 26 at Trail Lake Park in Streetsboro. Chief Ranger Steele of the Portage Park District and local law enforcement from nearby agencies welcomed young anglers (ages 5-12) for a morning of learning and fishing! Law Enforcement agencies present were:
• Portage County Sheriff’s Office
• Kent Police Department
• Aurora Police Department
• Portage County Wildlife Officer
• Ohio Department of Natural Resource/ Watercraft officers
Chief Ranger Zach Steele helped create this fun experience by connecting with partner agencies and planning this great morning for parents and children at Trail Lake. He also worked with our education program coordinator, Jen White, and Park District volunteers to provide education on identifying fish and Trail Lake Park. Volunteers helped to teach the participants to bait and cast prior to heading off to fish with their officers. Participants received a fishing pole to take home, a donation from Les's Bait Shop
Our young anglers had a great morning and caught plenty of fish! Photos of the morning's events below.
The Portage Park District offers educational programs for all ages and abilities. Park patrons can participate in guided hikes, geocaching, virtual natural areas education, birding hikes, yoga, and more. Find out more about park programs on our Things to Do page.
